The Babolat Pure Drive Tennis Racket – The best string setups

The Babolat Pure Drive is a great racket for many types of players; It’s quintessentially modern in specifications and has top shelf technology, while still, offering fantastic power levels to generate extremely advantageous ball speed but also forgiveness when player errors occur.

Being a much stiffer racket than most (RA-72) some might struggle finding appropriate strings and setups to compliment the racket or their game. If you want a similar frame but perhaps something more arm friendly we recommend either the Yonex Ezone 100 or Head Speed MP

Here are some options for stringing:

(all options are available in store or on our website for stringing)

First off, before we detail loads of options, A popular hybrid we string for the Pure Drive is Babolat RPM Power in blue (Mains) with Babolat Excel in black (Crosses) at 53LBS

Polyester Strings Solinco Hyper G soft (1.20mm) – A nice firm feeling poly string to add a bit more spin to the ball with great durability and play. Despite being slightly less stiff than standard Hyper G, it still provides a firm and connected to the ball feel. A thinner gauge string will allow more string movement and snapback for spin and string life; in general a thinner gauge will have more power and comfort.

Luxilon Alu Power Vibe – Similar control and feel as the standard Alu power but uses Luxilon legacy dampeners ground up into the mixture of the polyester to absorb more shock into the strings.

Head Lynx Touch – A great feeling, powerful and arm friendly poly we think is a must try!

Yonex Poly Tour Pro – a very good string for players looking for control, spin, durability, and above average comfort from a poly.

MonofilamentsLuxilon Element places an emphasis on playability and tension maintenance while being nice and arm friendly too, without sacrificing the spin, control and durability. Slightly muted feel but a top shelf string with the quality Luxilon are known for.

Babolat RPM Soft – Quite slightly muted feeling string but firmer than a multifilament string or synthetic gut with a similar arm friendliness; quite a popular string for beginners to intermediate or for hybrid string setups to keep the feel of the string bed when compared to a softer string.

MultifilamentHead Velocity MLT – Multifilament strings are, as a whole, the softest and perhaps most powerful strings outside of natural gut. So they are great for arm friendliness and power and work great in hybrids, however they are not as durable for players who regularly break strings.

Wilson Sensation – Very arm friendly, popular and good value for money and will give a damper feel on the ball. (Not much else to say!)

Hybrids – These setups are used with the intent of taking the best of several elements from these tennis string groups and combining them: So here are a couple of our recommendations!

  • Babolat RPM Blast (Mains) with Head PPS Synthetic gut (Cross)
  • RPM Blast (Mains) with RPM soft 1.20mm (Cross)
  • Hyper G (Mains) with Hyper G soft 1.20mm (Cross)
  • Head Lynx Tour (Mains) with Syn gut, a multifilament or RPM soft
  • we think you get the pattern! Basically a spin oriented Polyester string on the Mains, with a softer string of your choosing on the crosses, or just choose your preffered poly (Like Alu Power!)
